In this article, we discuss the main types of cryotherapy machines and what to know when considering the purchase of cryotherapy equipment.
Cryotherapy Machines
Cryotherapy machines are devices and equipment used for the conditioning of the body using cold air/gases, liquids or objects.
These include the cryotherapy chamber, the localized cryotherapy machine also known as a cryo facial machine, cryolipolysis machine used for CoolSculpting® and more.
These new technologies have been developed to speed up the process of applying targeted cold treatments and cryogenic therapy, to make them more effective, accessible and more time-efficient.
In this article, we discuss a number of these new technologies and what areas they are used in, how they are applied, we discuss how much is a cryotherapy machine with a brief overview of the costs.
Please note, in the cryotherapy industry, many terms are used interchangeably to refer to the same equipment.

Cryolipolysis is a fat reduction procedure that uses cold temperature to reduce fat deposits in certain areas of the body.
It is a non-surgical procedure that uses an applicator to suction the clients skin while cooling it at the same time.
Used predominantly for beauty treatments.

Due to the observed beneficial effects of cold, many studies have been conducted since the 1970's seeking to determine how cold can help us in our daily lives, how to maximize the effects of cold and what areas it can have the biggest effect in.
Most studies have focused on the following areas of medicine having the highest rate of positive outcomes.
From our experience, nearly all of our customers who have decided to install a cryotherapy machine had one or more of these areas of application in mind when making a decision.
If you'd like to learn more about who our customers are and why they choose to set up cryotherapy chambers, go to Cryotherapy Users.
Cryotherapy Machines
A majority of cryotherapy businesses with clearly set goals and a long-term approach will succeed, both through good times and crisis, dedicated clients will come in for their favorite treatments and services. We are observing this with many of our customers.
While many recovery businesses that are solely focused on making a quick buck and not offering the community added value end up failing with tons of recovery equipment.
The fate of a recovery business will depend on several factors, the type of equipment is often not the main reason why a business will succeed or fail.
These are the 4 areas that all cryotherapy businesses need to focus on to succeed.
It's important to consider the length of the treatment as for example, a cryotherapy session in the cryotherapy chamber only lasts up to 3 minutes and the whole procedure can take up to 10 minutes.
Most people will not want to travel very far for such a short treatment, unless the user is seeing some type of long term medical benefit or the customer is very focused on recovery, which gives them additional motivation to return.
That's why it's critical to place your business in the right location.
You will need to develop an online marketing strategy especially for social media, local partnerships that refer customers to you as well as an offering that will help you retain customers such as treatment packages, events and special deals.
One of the most important factors for the success of a recovery business is the ability to build a customer base.
To build a customer base, you will need to keep investing into marketing and advertisements for months, and sometimes it can take over a year.
You may need a budget of at least $6,000 for your launch, and $1000 to $2000 to keep campaigns running. The costs of the marketing campaign will also depend on the area.
Finally, from our experience, the most important factor for success and profitability of a cryotherapy business is the dedication of the business owner. People appreciate positive energy, good knowledge about the treatment, and results.
The owners involvement in the day to day operations is often the key to success.
Sometimes profitability can take a hit with high equipment running costs or huge overheads for cryotherapy machine leases. That's why prior research is critical.

Cryotherapy Machines
Cryotherapy machine is a term used to describe all equipment used for different types of cryotherapy while the term cryotherapy chamber is only used for equipment that performs whole body and fully body cryotherapy treatments
The terms cryosauna and cryotherapy chamber are interchangeable. Although some groups within the cryotherapy industry characterize open top cryotherapy units as cryosaunas and enclosed cryotherapy rooms as cryotherapy chambers, the majority of people choose to refer to both types of equipment as "cryotherapy chambers".
There is a large amount of confusion in the cryotherapy industry about various terms, that is why we've taken the time to lay down the definitions from our own perspective in an article titled Cryotherapy Terminology.
Cryotherapy Machines
Cryotherapy chambers are machines that are designed to rapidly expose the entire body (including the users head) or whole body (except the users head) to extremely cold temperatures with the goal of inducing a cold shock through sensory reactions in the users skin.
All systems take a slightly different technological approach with some advantages and disadvantages, but all are trying to achieve the same goal.
Cryotherapy chambers have many different names, a universal term has not been established by any official entity, and we choose to use the most widely familiar terms "cryotherapy chamber" or "cryo chamber".
Check out Cryotherapy Terminology to learn more about the terms used in cryotherapy.

Go to Cryotherapy Users to find out more about what types of businesses, individuals and sports organizations use cryotherapy chambers and why they choose to use cryotherapy.
Nitrogen cooled cryotherapy chambers may not expose the users head to the cold environment, but nitrogen cooled units offer the coldest experience, they're quick to startup, flexible and more accessible.
Electric cryotherapy units may not get as cold and require a large initial investment, but they don't require deliveries of liquid nitrogen, day to day operation is simple and they offer a breathable environment.
Hybrids are a great system and offer additional safety with a breathable environment, but are they worth the additional cost and extra nitrogen?
All three systems offer their own unique sets of advantages.
All three systems are suitable for different types of facilities, different business plans and different users.
Go to Nitrogen Cooled vs Hybrid vs Electric Cryotherapy Chambers to read more about how various systems of cryotherapy chambers work and to get a better picture of the questions raised with the three types of cryotherapy chambers.
Cryotherapy chambers cost from $40,000 to $300,000.
If you'd like to learn more about the cost of cryotherapy chambers and what makes up the cryo chamber price go to the Cryotherapy Chamber Cost page.
This will mainly depend on your costs for liquid nitrogen or electricity (especially in case of electric cryotherapy chambers).
Liquid nitrogen can cost from $0.50 up to $1.50 per liter in some areas. This price may be higher when including delivery charges and nitrogen tank rental costs.
The CRYO XC™ Plus/ CRYO XC™ nitrogen cooled cryotherapy chamber consumes between 4 to 10 liters of liquid nitrogen depending on the intensity, duration of session and scheduling.
Find out more about Liquid Nitrogen Supplies.
Cryotherapy treatments cost from $30 to $50 as part of combo packages and $40 to $100 for single sessions in some locations. Some locations offer unlimited treatments for $250 to $500.
The price of a cryotherapy treatment is determined by the investment into equipment, build-out, and reccuring overheads, such as rent, marketing costs, staff costs, liquid nitrogen costs and the overall business strategy.

Cryotherapy Machines
Localized cryotherapy machines, also referred to as cryo facial machines in beauty care, are devices that are designed to rapidly expose targeted areas of the body to extremely cold temperatures with the goal of inducing a cold shock through sensory reactions in the users skin.
The treatment typically lasts between 3 to 15 minutes.
Local cryotherapy devices have two main areas of application.
1) Cryotherapy Facials for beauty care and wellness.
2) Targeted Cryotherapy / Spot Cryotherapy for sports recovery and physiotherapy.
Cryotherapy Facials are localized cryotherapy treatments applied on the face and select areas of the body (tummy tucks and with the following objectives:
Targeted / Spot Cryotherapy is a localized cryotherapy treatment applied on targeted areas of the body with the following objectives:
Local Cryotherapy Machines are portable and can be used as mobile cryotherapy units due to their leight weight. This allows the operator to transport the equipment to where it's required.

Cryolipolysis, a treatment also referred to as fat freezing or CoolSculpting, is a procedure that applies cold temperatures on targeted areas of the body to reduce fat deposits.
The treatment is non-surgical and was originally based on the finding that fat cells are more susceptible to cold temperatures than all other surrounding cells.
Fat cells affected by CoolSculpting are a waste product that is permanently eliminated from the body by the lymphatic system.
Fat reduction (15 to 28% in the treated area)

1) Targeted Fat Reduciton.
Unlike weight loss through diet or exercise, CryoSculpting® is a tool that allows us to burn fat in specific/targeted areas of the body.
2) FDA approved
Coolsculpting is an FDA approved treatment and offers wonderful results.
3) Coolsculpting® is a low risk treatment
As Coolsculpting® does not require anesthesia, or a medical procedure, the treatment carries a much lower risk to the client with only temporary numbness and redness.
4) Costs less than surgery
Liposuction is an effective way to lose weight, but at a much higher cost than CoolSculpting®.
5) Saves time
Compared to liposuction surgery, where it takes hours of the clients time, and involves days and weeks of downtime, CoolSculpting® only requires 30 minutes to one hour of your time and is now widely available.
6) Does not leave scars
CoolSculpting® does not leave scars unlike surgery.
7) Treatment areas
Coolsculpting® has been approved by the FDA for use in a number of areas on the body.
